Ice Age Fossils State Park
What do you mean Vegas used to be underwater?
Seems like we have the exact opposite problem these days...!
Read that again - the oldest Archeological site in North America - right here in Tule Springs!
Yeah - just look at it!
Dire Wolf Knuckle.
So metal.
Lake Las Vegas
Lake Mead
If you look closely enough, you can see there used to be water in Lake Mead.
Lee Canyon
Lone Mountain
So pretty, and nice mountain scenery too!
All uphill!
At the summit.
Chippy loved taking hikes. It was her favorite. #adventuredog
The Strip, The Strip!
Chewkie!
The view looking NE to the corner of the valley
The view toward Summerlin
Highway 215 - we usually have the other view when we're driving!
Peace!
Another successful hike.
Mt. Charleston
Mt. Charleston Cabins - best way to spend your 9-Year Wedding Anniversary, in my opinion!
The view directly across from the Cabins - also that road directly before the Cabins is the trailhead for Cathedral Rock Trail.
I like this quasi-bank robber setup they have to pick up your keys!
DVD's for days!
We watched:
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Halloween
Troy
Lucky Cabin #7
After all, it is Vegas!
Great place to spend time watching the sunrise/sunset
The view directly out back of Cabin #7
Neighbor to the right
Cabin 23 for snacks and events
Driving towards the North Loop Trail
Time to hike: The North Loop Trail
Who would steal 30 bagged lunches?
I'll tell ya who, it's that damn Sasquatch!
Do you think anybody else has ever brought the Mac and Cheese from Gilley's (at Treasure Island) this far up the mountain?
Spoiler alert: they have not.
Very faint, but if you look on lower right of this pic you can see the Strat, then look to the right of that you can see Fontainebleau - about 40 miles away!
The actual tree from Ernest Scared Stupid. Isn't it?
We were lucky we saw 2 Chipmunks, 2 Bigfoots, and a UFO on our hike.
Surprised we didn't see the Bartenders from Viking Mike's in the Arts District out foraging for wild Juniper Berries for their drinks!
One of many false summits.
Don't worry, it just keeps going up and up, pretty much forever.
I found the literal definition of "if a tree falls in the woods..."
Time for some chow - the Retreat on Charleston Peak
They got a bar (obviously)!
Canyon Rest-er-aunt
Kinda feels like a yurt.
(a lot of) Cheese Curds
Chicken Tacos + Dip Trio - also much tastier than it needs to be!
View from the back patio of the restaurant
Time for another hike!
Cathedral Rock Trail - directly across from the Cabins.
Pro Tip: you'll want to park at that trailhead before about 715am, by about 730am the parking lots are completely full and people are parking + walking about 1 mile to even get to the trail.
We saw about 40 people parking far away and walking that way when we finished hiking at about 845am, so get there early!
See, we do have water in Vegas.
It's just 40 miles away up in the mountains.
This is actually from a natural spring a little way up the trail.
