Fergusons.
Shop small.
Support local small businesses.
Check out some fun and quirky stuff.
And while we're at it, let me show you the cool old abandoned motels next to Fergusons! (and what my dream would be for that area if I won the lottery)
Still waiting for my Golden Goose to come in, shit.
I love retro shit like this.
It's funny to me that these new multi-billion dollar casinos act like they can't build a sign like this, because it would bankrupt them.
Or the $12 a year in maintenance would.
This is the kind of stuff people in Vegas want for crying out loud!
Abandoned Motel District
If you go farther East past Fergusons, you get into this abandon motel district.
If I ever win the lottery I'm buying all these and restoring them to retro-modern motels, with open air markets, attractions, etc.
These are such a cool part of Vegas history and it's a shame they are just sitting there wasted!
I actually spent an entire summer drawing up all the plans for these before.
For the (Original) Las Vegas Motel - I'd do nods to old Vegas Hotels (like the Thunderbird, The Dunes, Silver Slipper, Hotel Nevada, Hacienda, Silverbird, El Rancho, New Frontier, etc. where each room is themed from an old Vegas property with art and photos and stuff, and give the overall property an old Western theme with open air saloons, shops, etc. with dirt floors
For the Lucky Motel - I'd make this the flagship property, and call it "The Lucky Chip" - after my dog Potato Chip.
I'd put a giant neon sign of her head on the property and make this a straight up 1950's time capsule - (everything straight from the 50's & 60's only), a retro diner, authentic soda jerk, malt shop / milkshakes, country store (with gifts, jams, jellies, pickled goods, cheeses, breads, etc.), tchotchkes shop selling small art pieces, custom souvenirs, etc., 1950's wedding chapel, antique shop, bakery, retro barbershop, penny candy shop, 1950's black and white tv's in every rooms (but with the rest of the fixtures as nice as Circa), antiques and vintage art in the rooms, and a martini glass pool like Plaza used to have... (with glam photo shoots, selling retro bathing suits, etc.)
The aforementioned, Potato Chip!
Potata Chip!
Chippy!
Trukey!
Crunch-O!
Crunch-a-do!
Crinkle!
Noodle!
Potato, with 8 O's!
Chewkey!
My soul dog.
For the Fremont Motel - I'd do a mini Fremont Street Canopy, a Martini pool (like Plaza Hotel used to have), photo ops with old classic 1950's-1970's cars on the property, old school phone booths, real Grease the movie vibes.
I'd work with the Neon Museum to put an education Neon shop on the whole 2nd floor (for locals and tourists), where you could get a custom neon sign made and shipped to your house) - they could do workshops and field trips, etc. for schools.
Of course we'd have a speakeasy in the Neon shop too, obviously!
I'd do a Thai Night Market on this block next to Fremont Motel, with semi-permanent food truck stations and rotating vendors (like a Food Truck incubator to help them get successful before opening a full restaurant), fire pits, tables, yard games, a dog walking path, etc.
For the Star View - I'd do a galaxy themed ice cream shop, rooftop observatory / observation decks, telescopes, Airstream campers guests could book overnight, Airstream boutique shops, fire pits, a planetarium, rooftop arcade, and give it a space theme, UFO art, props, etc.
When I said I drew this all up one summer, here's what I would include across the entire Motel District, in general:
10' tall Neon Cactus x7 (various shapes/design)
Caricature Photo Stall
Classic Car Photo Ops
Cooling Stations x7 (like Minus 5 Ice Bar, but they can enter one end, exit the other, in a straight line for 10 seconds type of thing)
Dog Walking Track/Path inside exeterior of the complex (with irrigation, cooling stations, and waste plan)
Fire Pits
Food & Beverage
Hop On/Off Trolley(s) from Motel District to Fremont Street (think Plaza to Fergusons)
Japanese Alleyway ("Yokocho") x3 – like those little alleys with food stalls that have 6 seats each and everything is packed in really close together, with overhead lights / decorations, etc.
Live Music Stages (small x2)
Murals
Pedestrian bridges over the top of each connecting street (to connect Ferguson’s to Traveler’s, The Lucky Chip to Fremont Motel, etc.)
Phonebooths (that print Polaroids)
Photo Ops
Playgrounds (micro) x2 with a few pieces of unique playground equipment each
Popcorn Cart (like Plaza used to have the Popcorn Carriage Wagon, w/custom mix-ins, etc.)
Retro Neon Signs (Neon Musuem Collab?)
Retro Neon Signs (Original)
24’ Alien (possible cowboy hat, but definitely a golden wire lasso!)
My dog Chippy's Head as the sign for The Lucky Chip
24’ Moon wrapped in Neon Wire, etc.
UFO Craft (Working) Photo Op (get someone from Area 15 to collab?)
Go inside, move around, sit in cockpit
Alien music/sounds inside
Lights, fog, etc.?
Unique Restrooms
Water Bottle Filling Stations
Yard Games
Zipline
For all of the Motels I'd set up small micro businesses (in the style of Fergusons).

Specialty Shop (Maybe a foreign Market like Brits/Au Marche or small speciality grocer?)
Speciality Sodas
Tattoo/Henna Shop
Watch Maker / Watch Shop

Doggie Swimming
Speakeasy (Dog themed)
For Llama Lot (9th and East Fremont):
Overflow for any attractions that don’t fit the footprint?
