Heights, for people who don't like heights! Or for people who do like heights - either way, check out these views!
Heights are my #1 least comfortable thing in the world. Here are the Vegas attractions that allow you to experience Vegas from above, without necessarily having the fear of heights (or at least sharing how I found ways to work through it in a manageable way).
Area 15 - Haley's Comet (multiple seatbelts/restraints before riding, located on 2nd floor)
Area 15 - Liftoff
New York New York - Roller Coaster (mechanically locked into place and controlled by ride operator at start and end)
Paris - Top of the Eiffel Tower
The Linq - High Roller
The Stratosphere - Observation Deck
High Roller - The Linq
What I like about this attraction is that the pods lock mechanically from the outside, and have no opening mechanisms from the inside, so I felt very comfortable on-board.
There is also a very minimal outdoor platform route to access, with netting all around, so not anything too crazy - pretty much like a 2nd floor walkway situation, so I was also very comfortable with this attraction as well.
All aboard!
When you first board, I think this part looks higher than it actually is because of how the platform is constructed, but like I said it routes you into a different area than what's pictured here, there are rails and netting all around, so even for someone who doesn't like heights - I felt completely fine!
I think it's about a 30 minute ride from the time you board, and reaches around 180 meters (or 550 feet in Freedom Units), if I'm not mistaken
Going up!
This view is going to be really rockin' once they finish construction on the Hard Rock Guitar!!
Lift Off - Area 15
At just 130 feet tall, and with access directly from ground level, in addition to operator mechanically locked seatbelts with no release buttons - I would say this is the #1 easiest way to experience heights in Vegas, for those who don't love heights!
You can have some liquid courage during the ride, if you'd like.
Case in point.
Pro tip: The ride doesn't rotate 360 degrees anymore, for "maintenance" (Vegas code for pinching pennies) - so be sure to select a seat that gives you a direct line of sight to the Strip!
A good view of the angle of the dangle.
Those bolts don't look rusty do they? No I'm just kidding.
Cool Queen.
Definitely need to try this one again at dusk / magic hour!
Top of the Eiffel Tower - Paris
The nice thing about this attraction is you take an escalator up to a 2nd floor passageway, to the elevator, to the top, which is fully caged in around you.
As someone who doesn't like heights - I was extremely comfortable with this entire journey, no problems for me at all.
Buying the tickets was the scariest part of the whole thing. The idea of going to the top is what bothered me initially, never thought I'd do it!
Feeling good (not).
The highest point prior to the top, not bad at all.
Just so happen to see this lady winning about $750 on the walkway to the elevator. Lord I see what you've done for others, and I want you to do that for me!
#view from the top
Notice the port-holes you can hold your phone behind for a more clear, unobstructed photo (see next few images)
460 feet tall I believe.
She looked mad, I'm guessing she must have been hungry or something.
Feeling much better, and enjoying the views!
The ride time is pretty much solely based on how full the elevator is on each pass. Once you're at the top you can wander around for as long as you'd like, whenever you're ready to go, you just catch an opening on the elevator to ride back down.
I would say about 30-40 minutes from the ground, up the elevator, and back down again.
Very worthwhile experience and something I'd definitely recommend for people who don't like heights. Need to check it out at dusk / night next time!
Top of the Strat - The Strat
As someone who doesn't like heights, this one was a lot for me, obviously.
But let's break it down, because honestly it was easier than I thought - and something I'd definitely recommend, and I want to do again and again!
Gives whole new meaning to the term "dare-devil".
No.
And that's just the ones that do it in the ticketed manner!
Again the elevator access starts from the 2nd floor, so nothing too crazy there, and after about a 30 second ride to the top, it stops here - this is Level 108.
I liked how it was fully enclosed and you can walk around 360 degrees for amazing views of the Strip, Downtown, and the Las Vegas Valley.
I felt completely comfortable and honestly blown away by the views, was my major focus. I never thought I'd go up here in a million years!
Behold.
My 50 megapixel phone camera fighting to capture this pic of downtown lol
So here is the little room they set you up in for the "jump". It's actually a "controlled decent", that's what they have the Guinness World Record for anyway.
The room is securely locked behind numbered keypads, and has about 6 employees sitting there. After seeing it up close I would actually consider doing this, to me it actually looks pretty fun!
1,149 feet tall (aka: 1.4 million miles, feels like it anyway!)
They were going to make it 600 feet taller? JFC that's ridiculous!
There are bathrooms, a cafe, a bar, a gift shop informational kiosks, informational posters, etc. throughout Level 108. Plenty to see, and plenty to do!
Exactly.
Let's make the trek upstairs to the outdoor Observation Deck, shall we?
Locate this staircase behind the bar at Level 108
Here we go!!
After being up here I understand that painting so much better now.
View from the LITERAL top!
Pro tip #1: something that helped me cope with this height was taking frequent breaks to step back inside every once in a while, instead of just staying out on the observation deck the whole time. I found that help me "reset" if I found myself getting overwhelmed.
Pro tip #2: do NOT look up. I was completely fine with the height until I looked up at the spire on top of the building (pictured) - so easier to stay focused on the sights / horizon instead!
Decided to take a photo to commemorate, because why not?
Pro tip #3: if you're worried about your phone, you can buy a silicon bungee on Amazon to attach to your phone for extra peace of mind.
I did it!
I don't like heights, and I did the Top of the Strat.
Just pace yourself, start out on Level 108, check your comfort level, if you do go to the Outdoor Observation Deck - just take it slow, go back inside to take breaks and reset, and focus on the amazing view and the horizon.
For someone who doesn't like heights, it's possible, and fun!!
